Vinyl Sunday: "9th Wonder (Blackitolism)"

Speaking of Shabazz Palaces, I've been playing to a lot of Digable Planets this past week. The Blow Out Comb album in particular. This group was highly influential to me growing up. Right along with Tribe, the jazz element that they were able to incorporate into their music was phenomenal. One of my favorite tracks on the album and from Digable Planets as a whole would have to be "9th Wonder (Blackitolism)." I love the beat on the joint!

Always baffled me why this album didn't do better. Might be one of the best second albums ever. I saw them live open up for Sade back in '93 here in RVA. YOU would have loved that!

You probably know, but just in case, the beat comes from a serious break on the B-side of James Brown's, "Soul Pride, Pt's 1&2." I was lucky enough to find the 45 last year.

Thanks for bringing back my "Dig Plan's" memories!

OK, I just kicked Bill & Ted out the phone booth, and traveled back to my high school years. Many a spliff got lit to the music of Digable Planets, and Lady Bug Mecca really "lit" a young man's hormones back then. Actually, if I wasn't married, she could still get it!

Sade and Digable on the same ticket!!!??!! I know that had to be dope. Damn!

Thanks Dave B. I actually didn't know what song that beat came from. I should have guessed James B. though because that shit is funky! So glad you did a post on it. I've been playing it all night!

Digs: Ladybug Mecca just has that kind of voice that makes you want to get blazed! he whole vibe of Digable Planets for that matter...

As always, it's such a pleasure when you guys come through. Many thanks!
