Soul II Soul were a heavy staple in my childhood. The first album was awesome. Caron Wheeler brought life to Jazzy B.'s productions. Needless to say, Vol. 2 wasn't the same without her. I have that album as well. "Get a Life" was honestly the one of the only cuts I really enjoyed because it had that same feel. Soul II Soul is just not the same without Caron's vocals. I kind of lost touch with Soul II Soul after that. Jazzy B doesn't get enough credit as a producer for other artists too. I followed Caron Wheeler though and LOVED the UK Blak album. "I Adore You" in particular. I saw a vid of her perfoming "Keep On Moving" last year at Fat Beats and I lost my mind! She still sounds so good!

And Digs, your comment only reminds me of how much I loved the late 80's early 90's because we had such a huge variety of music that we don't have now.

Around 1990/91 I really got into the Acid Jazz scene based in the UK and Soul II Soul, along with the Brand New Heavies, were my introduction. Soul II Soul is usually not mentioned in that scene, but I was lucky enough to see them live up at Constitution Hall up in DC just as their second album hit and they were touring with a full band. It was a Soul/Jazz/Funk/Dance party. Sort of a once in a lifetime thing as I'm not sure they ever toured again as their third album didn't do much here in the USA.

You know, Jazzy B certainly gets props as the father of that group, but I don't think it would have been as special without the magical vocals of Caron Wheeler, at least on that first album. I was a big fan of Vol:II, but that second LP missed Caron as she left to do a solo album called, UK Blak. Always! Far as this good music right here, Jazzy B was the producer for this group (pictured on the cover). This London group took the US by storm in the late 80's, and their style meshed perfectly with what Teddy was doing with New Jack Swing, the predominant style of hip hop and R&B in the late 80's/early90's. Great record!
